Speakers' Corner
Spike Island is an international centre for the development of contemporary art and design. Based in Bristol, UK, it is home to a gallery, café and working space for artists, designers and creative businesses. A vibrant hub for production, presentation and debate, we offer opportunities for audiences to engage directly with creative practices through participation and discussion.
Spike Island open studios is a very popular yearly event showcasing the work of artists residents. As part of Spike Island open studios in 2016, I was invited to do a talk on Creative Use of Empty Spaces at their Speakers Corner event.
My talk was focussed on valuing space and revisiting vacancy as an important resource in our city. Exploring the methods and vision needed to transform what other people see as an eyesore to what is for artists an important resource to develop their work.
