Real Play Coalition: Places where Play Heals
The Real Play Coalition is evidence that play has the power to unite various urban agendas, research interests, advocacy plans and investment strategies. By uniting the actions of private and public institutions, we work towards interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional outputs that are capable of changing the world.
The Real Play Coalition is a global non-profit coalition created in 2018 which includes UNICEF, National Geographic, Arup, IKEA and LEGO Foundation. It has the ambition to create a movement that narrows the play gap for 100 million children by 2030, by making play accessible and inclusive, because it is an essential right for children to thrive now and in the future.
The expert jury selected the winning cities and urban practitioners for creating places that give people time, space, and opportunities to play, to help their community tackle three global challenges—Climate change, inclusivity and conflict.
Winners of the ‘Places where play heals people’ category utilise play to help communities through issues of trauma and conflict, ‘Places where play supports climate action’, were recognised for enabling a community response to climate change, and winners of the ‘Places where play unites us all’ are addressing inequality through play.
Our project Baytna Hub and Athens, has been selected as a highly commended project for the Real Play City Challenge 2022, in the category "Places where Play Heals" across the globe.
Baytna Hub strives to give these children the opportunity to learn and play and to develop healthy and secure relationships. Baytna nurtures the attachment between parents and children to enhance the socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical development of children we work with.
