New Arts Exchange
New Art Exchange (NAE) is a contemporary art space in Nottingham that celebrates the region's cultural richness and diversity. It is the largest gallery in the UK dedicated to culturally diverse contemporary visual arts. The venue presents an ever-changing programme of art exhibitions, creative activities for families and young people, film screenings, symposiums, lectures, festivals and a live performance programme of music, dance and theatre.
In 2015 they organised a conference on the Creative Industries and I was invited to present our work with Artspace Lifespace and share good practices on the creative use of empty spaces for artists and start-ups.
'We worked with Artspace Lifespace in 2014. It was a great experience through which we found staff to be thoroughly professional and highly knowledgeable in arts management, administration and understanding of the sector as a whole. Dina Ntziora was a personable and inspirational speaker who impressed all of the participants on our Real Creative Futures programme with her perspectives and advice. Many left the session with a much clearer picture of how they could progress their plans to take over and manage arts spaces in Nottingham. The City Council has since become interested in Artspace Lifespace’s models and workspace for artists is slowly growing. As arts consultants, Artspace Lifespace have been a pleasure to work with. It’s good to know that there are others out there, like us, who can see the value of the arts so clearly and know what must be done to ensure the creative industries thrive'
