In January 2015 while Company Manager for Artspace Lifespace we launched a number of artists studios in the previously derelict criminal investigation department (CID) building in the heart of Bristol.
CID studios hosted a number of 30 artists ranging from painters to researchers, surfboard designers, a marketing agency, PhD research student and a large outdoor festival production company.
The building belonged to YMCA Bristol at the time and we took on the premises on a temporary contract.
I led the design of the project proposal, the implementation of all setup logistics, the curation of the artists' selection as well as all producing all the events hosted in the building during that time. I am very pleased to see today the space transformed into The Bristol Wing: a brand new boutique hostel for young people with provision for young disadvantaged people.
CID Studios was an excellent example of temporary use and an exciting work-in-progress and those trailblazers who came on board from the beginning became an essential part of its coming to life, grabbing a paintbrush and helping to create the space.
